MARGARET PEARCE ...
  Australian writer & author

The Author was born when the population was seven million – now it is some twenty-five million. Like many Australians, her forebears migrated in the 1850's to find a better life for their children, part of the largest diasporas of the times.

At seven when she found a lurid science fiction magazine, her unsupervised reading started. The cover had an almost naked female in a large wine glass and an interesting alien drinking her blood from a tap below. She has since been hooked on science fiction and fantasy. Completing a commercial course, she was launched on an unsuspecting business world before falling into copywriting. When she married, she commenced writing and even while raising children, found time to publish. Later, she studied arts as a mature age student but writing still dominated her life.

The Author lives in an underground house in the Australian bush, were she maintains her love of writing

Billy’s grandmother moves to an retirement home for the elderly up in the hills. While cleaning her bush cottage for a tenant, Billy finds a ring among the rubbish. Sliding it onto her finger, she quickly discovers she can talk and understand birds and animals, especially bossy ones like her grandmother’s Siamese cat...

Life will never be the same again!

‘Come on,’ the husky voice said crossly. ‘We must hurry.’ I stared at the cat. Did the voice come from the cat? The cat stared back. Grandmother always said Bast was intelligent, but talking cats! Was I going down with heat stroke?
    ‘Bast?’
‘Beloved of the Goddess, the ring has accepted you,’ the cat hissed.
'The ring,’ I repeated like an idiot.
'The ring ...’ the cat relied. She stopped lashing her tail and stared at me with her mad crossed blue eyes. ‘It gives you the power to understand and be understood by all creatures.’
‘Like the Dr. Doolittle who could talk to animals?’
‘Never heard of him,’ the cat hissed.
‘So I can understand cat language,’ I said.
‘All creatures,’ the cat hissed again.
