TWO LIVES  Published 2015 CUSTOM BOOKS imprint

A car crash – two lives collide, shattering one and setting in train a series of events that may ruin the other. Two damaged women whose lives have touched, and whose salvation may ultimately lie in each other.

Emma hardly slowed before accelerating round the corner. Too late she saw the car. It was in the middle of the road and coming at her fast. Way too fast. Slamming on the brakes she skidded, the wheels locked.
She was not slowing down at all.
Sliding sideways.

She felt the impact throughout her body.
There was a sound of breaking glass and mangling metal. Her four-wheel drive shook violently, but glanced off the smaller car and kept moving.

She managed to straighten up, slowed, stopped. She was shaking, could not make herself get out of the car, felt like her legs would not carry her. In her rear view mirror she saw that the other car had also stopped, just off the road by the telegraph pole.

The clock on the dashboard said four fifty-five. She bit her lip. She could still make it to the dry cleaner’s by five… just.

There was no-one else around, no-one had seen the accident...

A State of Oppression and Death... Uganda's Hell!

Winsome Natukunda grows up in a family on the wrong side of politics, her father tortured for his Democratic beliefs. Her childhood was filled with anxieties as to the safety of her father and the family.

Graphic reminders of the violent actions of government forces are everywhere – war, pillage, rape and indiscriminate murder, everyday occurrences.

As a young woman, she escapes to study Law in England, where she experiences a breakdown and a resulting suicide attempt. In hospital, she meets Angela, although suffering a bipolar mood disorder, helps her recover her mental health. Winsome inevitably falls in love with her son, Dominic.

In England, she hears no news from Uganda. Increasingly concerned for her family, and fearing the worst, she returns to find her father – tortured again – is gravely ill, while her mother spends her nights in a graveyard talking to spirits.

Much as she misses Dominic, she knows she must help her parents. Confronted by the state her country is in, and the effect of the start of the AIDS epidemic, she knows she must stay.

A deeply moving story of love and determination overlaying the human suffering and horrors of war!
