is the pen name of an academic in Kyoto, Japan, who was born in Canada but grew up in the United States. Educated at Harvard College and the University of Chicago, she started studying the ways that fiction writers use themes of fossil fuels and solar energy in their work in Japan. As an academic, she has published many articles.

Her adventurous academic life continues to be a source of inspiration for her fiction. She is working on her third novel.
